Ai2000 vs. NetSuite, SAP, and Microsoft Dynamics: Which ERP Is Best for Fashion?

By Ai2000 · August 2026

Short answer: NetSuite, SAP Business One and Microsoft Dynamics are excellent general-purpose ERPs, but they are horizontal platforms that must be customized to handle apparel. Ai2000 is vertical: style/color/size matrices, seasonal buying, cut-and-sew production, retailer EDI and landed cost are core product, not configuration. For fashion, footwear and home goods brands, that difference shows up as faster go-live and lower total cost of ownership.

The real question: horizontal or vertical?

A horizontal ERP is built to fit every industry, which means it fits none of them exactly. The gap between "every industry" and "your industry" gets closed with consultants, add-on modules and middleware — and those are the line items that dominate a generic ERP budget. A vertical ERP closes that gap in the base product.

When a generic ERP is the right call

Honest answer: if apparel is a small share of a diversified business, if you need deep multi-entity global consolidation across unrelated industries, or if your parent company mandates a standard platform, a horizontal ERP may be the correct choice. The comparison only tilts decisively toward a vertical ERP when your operating complexity is the product — sizes, seasons, styles, retailers and containers.

How to run the evaluation

  1. Score the demo on your own data: load one real style with a full size run and a real retailer PO.
  2. Ask each vendor which features require add-ons, and price those add-ons in year one and year five.
  3. Ask who builds your EDI maps, and what happens when a retailer changes its spec.
  4. Compare total cost of ownership, not license price — implementation, middleware, modules and internal hours.
